Ian Reynolds | Certified Prosthetist & Amputee
Growing up in Whitefish Montana my heart was a part of the outdoors. I have always loved pushing outdoor activities to the extreme, whether it was mountain biking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, cliff jumping, rafting or just a simple run through the woods. My friends and I found a way to push each other in a positive direction for further achievement.
As a thrill seeker, I suffered trauma from a homemade firework resulting in drop foot. With no ankle control for two years I chose to have my limb removed below the knee. It was at this time I was trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life. I have always loved tinkering with tools from repairing anything with wheels or bindings to building anything I can slide, grind, or catch air off of. I was also taking ceramic and photography courses at the time thinking an art major would suffice.
The prosthetist that was making my first leg let me help him out in the shop as we worked together to fabricate my legs as well as his patients. He saw my interest and ability to work by his side and wanted to hire me on full time after some more official training. I chose to go to school for a prosthetic and orthotic technician degree. I knew I was going to love this work, for my hands-on activities were my true passion. I graduated with honors from Spokane Falls Community College Orthotic and Prosthetic tech school and began working full-time at Glacier Prosthetic Care, Inc.
After 6 years of working with my boss and his wife he passed away from a unexpected heart attack. I received my prosthetist certification to allow us to continue practice and keep our doors open to our patients. His wife closed the business down and I re-opened for a short period of time. I didn’t have the work flow I needed to hire anyone and was a solo member of the facility for several months. Realizing that a big part of the passion was working side by side with friends and family I searched for place to call home again. My search for a innovative team that shares the passion for patient care ended when I was hired by Norell Prosthetics & Orthotics. Following my passion has allowed me to not only succeed as an amputee but also as a person that can help others through my own experience. ☺
Sean, it was really nice meeting you yesterday. Last night was the best nights sleep I've had in a long time. I only woke up twice instead of many times in order to adjust the other shrinker. I am looking forward to working with you and your team.
Wow! Aren’t you and Ian just wonderful! Thank you so much for your hard work and caring for our patients today. You have made a bit difference to their lives just by sharing your expertise today.
Let me know what I can do to help things move along.
